Structural change for all

The structural change projects are important for the development of the city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz. The flagship projects must not be at the expense of the normal and/or low-income population.

The city centre remains a district with a great diversity of all social classes due to the inner-city prefabricated buildings. At risk are the peripheral areas of the city centre, the area around the university and the railway station. These are also the areas where clubs are being closed or at least pushed out.

Affordable housing that can be renovated must no longer be given demolition permission (as in Greifenhainer Strasse, where affordable housing is being destroyed and expensive housing created).

Existing housing projects such as K29 need reasonable framework conditions. The city should consider no longer selling its own residential buildings to the highest bidder, but instead promote co-operative housing, real co-operative housing, i.e. not that of the group that incorrectly calls itself egWohnen.
Empty shops in the city’s portfolio should be given temporary use to artists and cultural workers.

Commercial properties that are no longer used should become spaces for culture. Until the dilettantism of the Treuhand and subsequent non-investors, the cellars under the derelict Stadtpromenade were places of sport and culture. Back to the roots.
So-called GDR garages are being re-planned. Fairness towards the users: cancellation of the lease in good time for planning security, the demolition costs should not be charged to the users.

Expensive housing can also be built in the former demolition areas in Schmellwitz and Sachsendorf, where all utilities are available. It prevents the formation of ghettos in the two neighbourhoods and increases the motivation for user-friendly public transport. This means that natural areas do not have to be given up and allotments do not always have to be planned over.
