With a view to the 2024 election campaign, we would like to give you an overview of the issues we are campaigning on. Family, sustainability, transport, integration/migration, (sub)culture, gentrification and digitalization are the focus of our political agenda. We are committed to ensuring that Cottbus has a vibrant and diverse future in which the concerns of all citizens take center stage. It must be the task of our city to improve the well-being of all and support self-help by providing sufficient and high-quality childcare, open child, youth and family support services and counseling services.
Sustainability
Electricity generation and storage, whether on a commercial or private scale, is an important issue in the design of the coming years. The provision of areas for solar power generation, for example on covered parking lots, public buildings or at home, can be achieved through appropriate measures.
Transport
In Cottbus, sustainable transport development is to be driven forward, focusing on the promotion of cycle paths, the expansion of local transport and the creation of bicycle parking facilities. At the same time, local transport is to be made more attractive with modern buses and streetcars. Another important building block is the creation of free local public transport.
Integration/Migration
Regardless of origin, the right to free development is enshrined in the Basic Law. This requires dialog and the inclusion of interest groups, even if they are often among the unheard. We strive to shift the focus of discussion away from fears and towards the possibilities of productive coexistence.
(SUB)Culture
Cottbus has a rich subculture that is worth supporting, supported by associations, voluntary work and commercial offers. This free development is a decisive factor for quality of life, integrative offers and self-efficacy, as it is precisely here that open platforms promote a sense of togetherness that is indispensable for exchange.
Gentrification
Lighthouse projects must not be at the expense of the normal and/or low-income population. The inner city remains a district with a great diversity of all social classes due to the inner-city prefabricated buildings. The peripheral areas of the city, the university and the area around the train station are at risk. This is also where clubs are being closed or at least pushed out.
Digitisation & administration
The digital transformation does not stop at our local government. In the age of digitalization, Cottbus should strive to create more efficient and user-friendly administrative structures to better meet our needs. Overall, digitalization is helping to make municipal administrations more transparent, efficient and customer-oriented.
Citizen participation
Strengthening civic participation in the municipality is crucial as it has a variety of positive effects on the local community and democratic life. Overall, strengthening civic participation helps to promote a vibrant, inclusive and democratic society at the local level.
