The housing situation for newly enrolled students at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg remains a challenge in which Reza Pourkaseb and his ‘Initiative for Student Housing’ would have liked to see more active cooperation between the student union, city administration, university and housing associations.
In the meantime, a number of members of our voters’ association SUB and students are involved in Reza’s initiative, especially Nadeem Manjouneh, who, as a newly elected city councillor, is actively involved in Cottbus not only politically, but also in his limited free time.
Housing associations in Forst, Hoyerswerda, Spremberg and Großräschen have shown particularly good behaviour in this tense situation, have offered a great deal of support and are putting their money where their mouth is, so that students will soon be able to move into affordable housing.
The mayors of Spremberg and Forst, Christine Herntier and Simone Taubenek, have also proven to be committed partners of our initiative because they are not only willing to help, but also recognise the potential that comes with an influx of students.
We are working flat out to find accommodation more efficiently and to welcome students to the region.
Anyone who would like to rent a flat or room to students is welcome to contact us.
